In the distant past, the mages of Britannia stood united under one Consilium, based on the ideals and protocols of lost Atlantis. This Consilium was based out of the ancient Anglesey sanctum, even then a nationally and globally known centre of magical trade and instruction.

But with Romanization, the mages of the UK began to find themselves affected by the developing cultural divisions between the Southern civil and Northern military zones of the country. Internal conflict developed within Awakened society, as many of the mages of the South began to take on the Roman way of life. During this period, the mages of Britannia decided that they could no longer function under the leadership of one Consilium, and the Consilii of North and South were set up, with the Anglesey Consilium remaining separate to govern over the functions and trade of the teaching demesne.

Centuries later, during the turbulent Anglo-Scottish Wars, the mages of Scotland claimed their own Consilium, splitting from the political control of the Northern Consilium.

Despite their differences, the four Consilii of Britannia have always maintained a relatively cordial relationship between them, and have continued through the centuries to work together when needed to ensure the safety and security of the mages of the land.

However, in recent years, turmoil has struck Britannia, and the Consilii of the country are still struggling to recover. Political stability of an uncertain kind has been reached, but many fear that there are further troubles to come.

Many of the mages of the Britannia Consilii were lost to the Cataclysm that struck at the turn of 2000, leaving a power vacuum in the country. Councilors - and in some cases, Hierarchs - were quickly appointed to fill the places left by those who were lost, and the Consilii gathered together to meet to attempt to bring stability to a shocked and troubled nation of willworkers.

After a year of political chaos, an accord was reached at the Pentacle Caucus of June 2001. Recent events had left the usual structure of Awakened society shaken. In that atmosphere, the incumbent Councilors came to the resolution that, for the time being, no challenge to Consilium positions would be tolerated as the major power blocks had either vanished or been left in disarray.

The mages of Britannia are aware that this move was made not only to protect the Councilors in their positions but also to protect the mages from a time of chaos and unrest. The Consilii as a group declared a five-year halt to all changes in Consilium positions. That time limit runs out in June 2006.

Over the last five years, many of the Provost positions held across the Consilii of Britannia have become vacant. Only now are the Consilii making moves to fill those positions, as none wish to make the first move which would be seen as ending the five year hiatus or which could threaten their own place as Councilor.

The situation has become desperate in recent months, with very few Provosts remaining across the country. The Consilii of Britannia have once again entered into mutual agreement, and decided that, in anticipation of the shifts of power which may begin in the summer, this is the time to align themselves with suitable and reliable Provosts.
